How education loan EMI is calculated
Education loan repayments depend on the loan principal, interest rate and repayment tenure. Some education loans include a study period or moratorium, and interest may accrue during that time; this simple calculator models regular monthly repayments after repayment begins.
The formula is EMI = P × r × (1+r)n / ((1+r)n − 1), where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the number of monthly instalments.

Change the amount, rate and tenure above to estimate repayments. For a more accurate plan, check whether accrued interest during the study period is added to your outstanding balance.
Planning education loan repayments
- Review the moratorium, interest accrual and repayment-start conditions in the loan agreement.
- Compare rates, fees and any applicable concessions.
- Plan the EMI against expected income after studies and other expenses.
- Check lender rules before making additional principal payments.
Frequently asked questions
Does this calculator include a study-period moratorium?
No. It calculates standard monthly repayments from the entered principal. Interest accumulated during a moratorium may need to be added separately.
Can extra payments shorten the loan?
In this calculator, extra principal payments keep the regular EMI unchanged and can reduce interest and the remaining tenure.
Are the results guaranteed?
No. They are estimates. Refer to your lender's repayment schedule for the actual amount due.
