How to use a loan EMI calculator
Enter the loan principal, annual interest rate and repayment tenure. The calculator converts the annual rate to a monthly rate and estimates a fixed monthly instalment. A higher rate or larger loan amount usually increases the EMI. A longer tenure usually lowers the EMI but can increase the total interest paid.
Loan payment and interest formula
For a reducing-balance loan, EMI = P × r × (1 + r)n ÷ ((1 + r)n − 1), where P is principal, r is the monthly interest rate and n is the total number of monthly payments. At a zero interest rate, EMI is principal divided by the number of payments.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a loan payment calculator?
Yes. It estimates the monthly payment for a fixed-rate loan repaid in equal monthly instalments.
Can I use it for a home loan or car loan?
Yes, for a basic fixed-rate EMI estimate. Use the specialist home loan EMI calculator or car loan EMI calculator for related repayment features.
Does the result include all bank charges?
No. Processing fees, insurance, taxes, rate resets and lender-specific charges are not included unless reflected in the inputs.
How is a monthly payment different from total repayment?
Monthly payment is the instalment due each month. Total repayment is the sum of all instalments over the loan term; it includes principal and estimated interest.
